New Chiefs Assistant Coach?

On Monday Kaizer Chiefs had officially announced that they parted ways with head coach Molefi Ntseki and that they have redeployed assistant coach Arthur Zwane back into their development structures, while Cavin Johnson is the interim head coach.

Now, Siya sources have indicated that Chiefs' current DStv Diski Challenge team coach Vela Khumalo and Zwane could swap roles.

The source added that Khumalo could be the second assistant coach in the first team alongside Dillon Sheppard while Zwane will return to his old position in the DDC team.

"As it stands, now Arthur (Zwane) is expected to go back as head coach of the DDC team and Vela (Khumalo) to assist with the first team. However the set up will be different," said the Siya source.

"They are planning for Khumalo to work with the first team at training but during the games he would be either with the DDC team or not on the first team bench. You know the essence of the whole exercise is for him to help with the coaching at training and not at the game.

"Then Zwane will be the one taking over at the DDC team. But they are currently working on those logistics," the source told Soccer Laduma.

Another source added that Khumalo was tipped for the role by Johnson himself.

"Johnson was asked to look at his own other assistant apart from Sheppard and the first name to come up was Vela (Khumalo). But it's the logistics on how this will work because Zwane has to go back to the DDC and they have to work on it as Khumalo will be working with the first team during the week," said the other Siya source.

"They have to see how they do during games over the weekend. But they will swap positions and roles at the moment," the source concluded.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received while preparing this story.
