Chiefs Could Lose Appollis Race To Closest Rival?

Even though Kaizer Chiefs were reportedly very close to signing Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis, there could be a twist in the tale as a rival club could overtake them in the race to sign him, the Siya crew has been informed.

Siya sources close to the clubs involved have indicated that Orlando Pirates are set to make a compelling offer to City.

The sources added that Bucs are believed to offer Polokwane R4 million plus midfielder Lesedi Kapinga in exchange for the Bafana Bafana winger, while Chiefs are reported to have offered R10 million.

The worst case scenario for Amakhosi is if they end up losing a player to a rival club.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Polokwane City are believed to be interested in signing Pirates midfielder Kapinga on loan, which could influence the Appollis deal in favour of the Buccaneers. Though, a final decision will depend on Appollis in terms of which club he prefers in South Africa or abroad.

"For now, it's anybody's game and one of the two could get the player, as each one of them has their own advantages. For Chiefs it's all about the money while for Pirates it's about exchanging a player for a player with added money on it. That's the situation right now," said the Siya source that's close to Polokwane.

"Polokwane City are interested in Lesedi Kapinga and if this works for them they would go with Pirates but if they are just looking at the R10 million then they will go with Chiefs. But it's a complicated situation right now. It's not the first time that Pirates have inquired about Appollis. They did before but it was not that serious. But now with Lesedi Kapinga also involved it changes the whole situation. That's why I am saying there is a twist now," the source added.

Meanwhile, a second insider stated that Polokwane City may delay a deal because of alternate interest from North Africa, and in that case we'd have to find out what could happen before next Friday.

"At the moment Polokwane City are also playing a wait and see game, as they believe that the North African team would come at the last minute and all along that's what Polokwane City have wanted for Oswin (Appollis), to move there. It was at a higher price as well. But now with both Chiefs and Pirates in the picture they are playing a delaying game and a deadline signing could be on the cards as things stand," the second source stated.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs, Pirates and Polokwane City for comment, but received no response at the time of preparing this story.

The race to sign Appollis has become more complicated with Pirates in the equation. As the transfer window deadline approaches, it remains to be seen which club will eventually secure the winger's services.
