September Reveals Reason For Chippa Exit

Thabo September has given detail into his exit at Chippa United, saying it was time to leave after a different role was offered to him by the club.

September was head coach of the Chilli Boys until recently, as the club announced the arrival of new head Sinethemba Badela.

In his first ever spell as a sole head coach in the top flight, September missed out on the top eight by just two points, as the club finished in 11th place.

He has revealed to Soccer Laduma that the club wanted him to take on an assistant coach role going forward, but he decided it was best to leave.

“I just think it’s time. I’ve done 18 months at Chippa. Chairman wanted to bring in someone, a different coach and for me to assist the coach and help in taking the team forward. But for me, I’ve done what I needed to do at Chippa. When you come into a place, you do your best and try to leave it better than you found it. The club is going to be good. It was time for me to look for something else,” September said to Soccer Laduma.

“At least I understood what the club was about. I know that I knew in the head coaching position, so I understood it. There’s a coach the chairman wanted to bring in. I see that Badela is going there to be the coach. I know him very well and we were doing our B License together, so I wish him well. I know what he can do and I see him doing well at Chippa.”

September is currently on vacation and will be using this period to decide on what happens next in his career.

“I am weighing some options. There are some offers, but I am weighing some options, to see what’s going to be best for me and my career.

“I’m in football for the love of it and to also support my family. So, if a projects fits me and it’s right...”

September did not get a chance to properly say goodbye to the players, as management made the decision after the final match.

“The decision was done after we had finished with the season, so I didn’t get to speak to the players in person. But I spoke to some players individually, but I didn’t get an opportunity to thank them. I’d like to thank them and wish them well for the future. I know that they will do great.”
