The Siya crew reported recently that Orlando Pirates teenager Mohau Nkota had made it onto the European market, with Belgian outfit Standard Liege understood to be keen on pursuing their interest.
Indications are that Liege wanted the 19-year-old without even assessing him via a trial as they believe he is ready to make the step up. Soccer Laduma were informed an offer would soon be submitted in the coming weeks or days.
However, upon further digging, it appears as though the two parties are yet to formally discuss a potential transfer, although the invitation hasn't been ruled out at this stage, with information reaching the Siya crew being that Liege are huge admirers.
The winger was just recently promoted to the first team by coach Jose Riveiro shortly after the Africa Cup of Nations recess. But the youngster, who has featured prominently for Pirates in the DStv Diski Challenge format with other development players and getting rave reviews there, is still yet to make his senior debut to date.
Liege play in the topflight Belgian Pro League, which has in the past seen several South African players use it as a stepping stone – most recently striker Lyle Foster, who is now at English Premier League club Burnley FC.
It remains to be seen what happens in the coming months as the season will soon conclude and the transfer market reopens again.
