Cape Town City recently confirmed salary cuts for their staff and players for the month of May, although Siya sources have learnt that not everyone has agreed to it.
The Citizens confirmed earlier in May that they have been forced to make extreme adjustments to the club's finances, as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic's effect on the country's crippling economy.
In an internal letter seen by the Siya crew, City confirmed salary cuts for the month of May, ranging from 15% to a 100%.
As a result, one player, Siphelele Mthembu has already been released from the club with two months left on his contract; this after having been previously linked with an exit in the January transfer window.
"We are requiring a 30% cut in player salaries — across all players — I will not cap the salaries, as discussed before. In addition, all those under R30k per month salary will get a 15% cut.
"The entire admin staff compliment of the club, technical, logistics and admin will be getting cuts ranging from 30% to 100% cuts.
"It is not intended to refund any of these amounts under these circumstances and we will review the situation end of May again. Judging from the processes we have followed and the general response from all of you, it would appear that you are in agreement to accept these terms for the sake of the club and fellow employees.
"If not, kindly respond in writing directly by 5pm 6 May 2020 and we can consult with you further," the communiqué signed by Chairman John Comitis read in part.
The Siya crew has since been informed that at least 10% of players have not agreed nor accepted the terms of the salary cut, while the rest have accepted the circumstances completely.
The adjusted salaries for May is expected to be paid out at the end of the month and it remains to be seen whether there are any legalities set in place after some players have disagreed with the terms.
The Siya crew will investigate the matter further.
