Siya sources have now indicated that negotiations between the involved parties have started.
Sources close to the negotiations have added that both the player and the club are eager to find a way forward, but they still need to agree on specific terms.
"They are still talking. It's not a done deal but negotiations are underway. Doubts are still there because he has just recovered from injury but they are expecting a final decision in the next few days," said the Siya source.
Mothiba's potential move to Chiefs is seen as a strategic signing to integrate experienced leadership with youthful talent within the squad.
"The team wants experienced strikers who can work with the youth and help the team going forward. And they feel Lebo (Mothiba) could be that player at the moment," the source added.
In addition to targeting Mothiba, Chiefs are also preparing for the possible departure of Ashley Du Preez, who has garnered interest from clubs in Portugal, according to a second Siya source.
"They want to be ready when and if Ashley (Du Preez) leaves then they should have a good enough replacement and Lebo is free and available right now. The deal is about to happen as they are still talking. For now it's all about negotiations on personal terms and other issues but they are negotiating and things look good. That I can tell you," the second source observed.
Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but no response was received by the time this report was published.
Chiefs' pursuit of Mothiba underscores their commitment to strengthening their squad as they aim to significantly improve their performances in the new season. By potentially adding Mothiba, an experienced Bafana Bafana international player, to their ranks, Chiefs are looking to blend experience with youth to create a dynamic and effective team.
The outcome of these negotiations will be crucial in shaping the team's strategy and competitiveness to win trophies again.
