Mamelodi Sundowns are set to release one of their midfielders at the end of the season, the Siya crew has learnt.
Sources close to Sundowns have indicated that the club is believed to have reached an agreement to release Matias Esquivel, who has seemingly been deemed surplus to requirements.

The insiders added that the Argentine midfielder could be returning to his former club Talleres Cordoba in Argentina.
"For now, the decision is as good as done. Esquivel won't be staying on at the club for next season. He is one of the players that the team is believed to be releasing next season and apparently he would be returning back to his club in Argentina," the Siya source told Soccer Laduma.
Meanwhile, a second insider at the club has further revealed to the Siya crew that the Brazilians are working on the financial implications for releasing him with two years remaining on his contract.
"Of course Sundowns have to negotiate a pay out if they are releasing him. He still has a contract and that's what they are working on with the player's representative to see how best they can work out his release," the second insider stated.
The Argentine-born midfielder joined the Brazilians in 2023 on a four-year contract and after playing a low amount of games, he was loaned back to Talleres de Cordoba in Argentina, where he got into their team.
Esquivel returned to the Brazilians in the January transfer window, but has not been able to get the type of game time that he prefers. Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
