"They want to see him on the pitch!" And that's the word from Mamelodi Sundowns sources when asked for an update on any potential suitors for defender Khuliso Mudau.
The Bafana Bafana international returned from the Africa Cup of Nations carrying an injury that needed serious attention from the medical team at Chloorkop, an outcome which has not only frustrated coach Rulani Mokwena, but the clubs that were tracking the right back before and during the continental competition.
Soccer Laduma reported late last year that 'Sailor' had caught the eye of Burnley FC and their English Premier League rivals Aston Villa. But things have gone a bit silent since then, although there was hope Mudau's display at the Afcon – as well as Bafana's bronze medal finish – would escalate interest.
However, the fact that the player has been injured and is only likely to return to action closer to the end of the season has not been well received by those who'd put him on their radar.
A source explained, "It is difficult to track his performances when he is not playing – the scouts and clubs want to see him on the pitch! With that not possible right now, it makes any move difficult."
Sundowns do still have the player's fate in their hands having managed to get him to accept a new contract that runs until July 2027. There has been no confirmation of an official offer from any party interested in Mudau.
