Chiefs To Struggle In Defender Pursuit?

Kaizer Chiefs and other potential suitors might have to look beyond AmaZulu's Riaan Hanamub in pursuit of a defender, the Siya crew has learnt.

Chiefs have become the latest club to be linked with Hanamub, who has been one of the sought-after players in the transfer market.

Since last season, Orlando Pirates have been linked with the Namibian international although sources later told the Siya crew that the Buccaneers withdrew their interest after signing young Dimpho Madalane from Madubaduba FC in Mpumalanga's Hollywoodbets Regional League, to groom him.

Chiefs emerged as one of the clubs having set their sights on Hanamub following an injury to new signing Bongani Sam who was brought in as a replacement for veteran defender Sifiso Hlanti who left at the expiry of his contract in June.

Despite the growing interest in the 29-year-old former Chippa United player, indications from sources close to Usuthu are that the Durban-based club isn't open to letting him go.

Hanamub has been a standout performer for the KwaZulu-Natal giants, with his consistency placing him head and shoulders above the rest to the delight of club management.

"He (Hanamub) is an important member for the squad, and he isn't a player that the club wants to lose. This talk about interest in him has been ongoing and it doesn't sit well with the President (Sandile Zungu) because he wants to keep the best players for the team to do well. AmaZulu are aiming for a better season and to achieve that they want to assist the coach (Pablo Franco Martin) by keeping all his best players," said the source.
