Chiefs Make Contact With Belgian Coach?

The Siya crew has been led to believe that the name of a Belgian coach has come up in the offices at Naturena, as Kaizer Chiefs' search for a new mentor continues.

A whole host of coaches has been linked with what's arguably the hottest coaching seat in the Premier Soccer League and now Patrick Aussems, the Belgian mentor, is another who is believed to be on the short list of the Soweto giants over the possibility of taking over.

The 59-year-old has tons of experience of coaching on the continent, working in countries such as Cameroon, Congo, Sudan, Tanzania and Kenya.

Aussems is no stranger to South African football, having previously worked at Black Leopards. He was with Lidoda Duvha for a short spell in 2020, with the club letting him go following a string of unconvincing results and performances.

The coach enjoyed a good spell with Tanzanian giants Simba, where he won the Premier League title on two occasions, as well a two super cup charity shields. He led the club to the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League and Sudanese side Al Hilal to the semi-finals in 2015.

"Kaizer Chiefs are in touch with him too," a source said to the Siya crew.

Chiefs are expected to announce a new coach once the season is over, and it's believed the club is going to bring in a foreign coach. Aussems is expected to be on that short list but it doesn't necessarily mean that he is the favourite for the position at this moment in time.

The Siya crew tried to get a comment from Chiefs on the matter, but the club had not responded by the time this story was published.
