Now sources close to the club have suggested that Sundowns are working hard in the background to have Basadien join the club before the MTN 8 clash against Richards Bay next week.
"Where things are now it's believed that Sundowns could be the one signing Basadien. Yes the initial asking amount was a bit high though Sundowns are believed to have been willing to break the local transfer record with a transfer fee believed to be around R25million. Now the talks have been going on and are at an advanced stage, with Sundowns working hard behind the scenes to have him before the MTN8 kicks off. It's really promising and if all goes well everything could happen any time from Monday," the source said.
Meanwhile, another insider suggested that Basadien joining Sundowns could allow Terence Mashego to move elsewhere, either permanently or on loan.
"You know Mashego recently renewed his contract with the club after interest from Kaizer Chiefs and other clubs, but with Fawaaz Basadien believed to be on the verge of signing for the club, Mashego could be on his way out. The Basadien move could affect him, but it could be on loan first, " the source said.
