Sirino Unsettled At Sundowns?

The DStv Premiership season has only started recently and one top Mamelodi Sundowns player, Gaston Sirino could leave the defending champions based on a perceived lack of involvement so far.

Siya sources close to the club have indicated that it has been understood how the player is looking for more game time and that a move away from the Brazilians is a possibility.

"As it stands now, both parties want out. The player wants to go where he will have game time," said the Siya source.

"Play and be appreciated. While at the same time, the technical team is apparently happy with the players who are playing so far. They apparently believe that although they have about six different competitions where they will play this season, they have the right players to do the job.

"That makes him more of a fringe player and it's frustrating for him and that's why he wants to leave as soon as possible," the source told the Siya crew.

Another Siya source added that there could be two other factors for him to consider before leaving the club, such as the impact of Sirino's salary on the wage bill which might be a challenge for Sundowns.

"From what they are saying, they would like to cut that salary bill of a player who is one of the higher earners but not playing," said the other Siya source.

"That would help the team. But then they are thinking of buying him out of the two years remaining on his contract to reach a settlement or mutual agreement. But he is on the verge of leaving.

"It's only that we don't know which route will be taken right now," the source told Soccer Laduma.

32-year-old Sirino joined Sundowns in 2018 under Pitso Mosimane and he has gone on to win six league titles with the team, as well as the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for a comment but the club didn't respond while preparing this story.
