Insiders within the South African Football Association and those close to Danny Jordaan have indicated that the long-serving president is preparing to stand for another term in office, despite increasing calls for his removal amid growing concerns over governance and leadership at the national football body.
Jordaan, who has held the top position since September 2013, is currently serving his third term.

With the next SAFA elections scheduled for 2026, speculation about his future has intensified following his recent appearance before the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture last Tuesday, where he and members of the SAFA executive were grilled over the state of football governance in the country.
Although Jordaan was non-committal when asked directly about his intentions, stating that the decision lies with SAFA’s 52 regional and associate members, those in his inner circle suggest he is positioning himself to continue beyond 2026.
“In any position in a democracy, you cannot give yourself a position... That is the responsibility of our 52 regions. They will decide who their president should be,” Jordaan told the committee.
However, sources familiar with internal discussions say Jordaan remains confident in his leadership and believes he still has a mandate to fulfil.

“There’s no doubt that Dr. Jordaan is interested in going on for another term,” said a source with close ties to SAFA’s executive.
“He believes his experience and ongoing plans for transformation in South African football make him the right person to continue leading, despite the noise,” concluded the source.
Whether the association’s regions will support his re-election remains to be seen, as criticism continues to mount from various corners of the football community. The next few months are expected to be crucial in shaping the political landscape ahead of the SAFA elections.
