The story
Affectionately known as the "Midnight Express Train" during his playing days, Mkhalele lifted the coveted AFCON title on home soil on Bafana Bafana’s debut in 1996, having made 66 caps for the national team.
The 55-year-old recently sat down with Michael Morton to answer a question that's posed to many former footballers – Who is the best player you have ever played with?
Mkhalele hailed the late skilful midfielder, John "Shoes" Moshoeu, as the best he's played with at national team level.
In the 90s, Mkhalele played for Jomo Cosmos before making the switch to Orlando Pirates, whom he left in 1997 to ply his trade in Turkey.
He played with a host of legends at both clubs, including the late striker Phil Masinga, who Mkhalele rated as the best he played with at Cosmos.
At Pirates, "Midnight Express" named the late midfielder John Moeti as the best he played with, while naming Dumisa "Sphithiphithi" Ngobe as the most underrated.
