Thabang ‘Charlie’ Hlalele is making headlines again – this time from across the border – after a standout season in Lesotho that has put him back on the radar of top flight South African clubs.
The talented midfielder was recently crowned Vodacom Premier League Midfielder of the Season for 2024/25 after a string of consistently influential performances for Matlama FC, one of Lesotho’s most successful and popular clubs.

His efforts not only helped Matlama to a competitive campaign but also cemented his status as one of the best midfielders in the region.
Now, after proving himself abroad, the 30-year-old former Orlando Pirates development player is believed to be eyeing a return to the Betway Premiership, where he previously had stints with clubs like AmaZulu and Polokwane City.

A source close to the player confirmed interest is growing from several PSL outfits.
“Charlie Hlalele had an exceptional season with Matlama FC in Lesotho. He really impressed with his consistency and impact in the middle of the park. There’s now a real possibility of him returning to the Betway Premiership, with a number of clubs currently assessing their midfield options and considering him as a serious candidate,” said the source.
