Ajax Cape Town have reportedly parted ways with nine big-name players after failing to gain promotion to the country's top-flight.

Despite leading the log for a large majority of the season, Ajax finished second to Swallows FC, who won the GladAfrica Championship on goal difference with 57 points, with TTM collecting 48 points and taking the third place, which saw them contest the promotion/relegation play-offs with Ajax and Black Leopards.

The Urban Warriors fought valiantly and came within a single game of winning promotion to the league they were relegated from in the 2017/18 season, however those hopes were dashed by Black Leopards, who secured their status as a top flight team with a game to spare.

Now it is back to the proverbial drawing board for Ajax who have reportedly parted ways with no less than nine players, including midfielder Grant Margeman who is yet to be unveiled by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Two players are still in limbo, with the club yet to make a decision on their futures.

Among the departures for the Urban Warriors include experienced duo, Rooi Mahamutsa and Eleazar Rodgers, who both played a crucial role in Ajax's play-off battle, particularly 35-year-old Rodgers, whose goals kept Ajax's promotion dreams alive.

To compound Ajax's misery, it is understood that mother club Ajax Amsterdam have severed ties with the club after a 21-year relationship.
