Thulani Serero responds to talk that he is the best midfielder in the UAE League

Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero has responded to talk that he is the best central midfielder in the Arabian Gulf league.

Since joining Al Jazira from Dutch side Vitesse in August last year, Serero has established himself as one of the team's go-to players.

The 30-year-old has been deployed to a more defensive, deep-lying playmaker role to great effect as he breaks down opposition attacks, while spearheading transition play for coach Marcel Keizer's team.

It seems that Serero's performances has captured the eye of football enthusiasts in the east, who are now labelling 'Cream' as the best midfielder in the league.

Of course, he is no stranger to such accolades. At the end of the 2010/11 Absa Premiership season, Serero was awarded a number of accolades, including PSL Footballer of the Year, PSL Player of the Season, PSL Players' Player of the Season and the ABSA Premiership Red Hot Young Player award.

Despite the high praise he has received in the UEA, Serero has played down talk that he is the best player in the league.

"Nothing has changed for me, and I can't say that I am the best defensive central midfielder in the league or no. I will always do my best to improve on daily basis, and to help the team with doing my job in the best possible way, and I will keep doing so until the last day as a footballer," Serero said speaking to the media.

Injury means that the midfielder is a notable absentee for his side ahead of their Etisalat Cup match against Al-Ittihad Kalaba this evening. It is also the same injury that has ruled him out of Bafana Bafana's back-to-back AFCON qualifiers against Sao Tome.
