Tefu Mashamaite Didn't Leave South Africa For The Money

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain, Tefu Mashamaite, chose his dreams of playing in Europe over money by signing for BK Hacken, where he is believed to be earning around R1.7m a year.

As reported in this week's issue of Soccer Laduma, the 30-year-old centre back is thought to be earning around 100 000 Swedish Krona a month in Sweden's Allsvenskan a figure that is equivalent to around R144 000.

Having signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Hacken, Mashamaite has committed himself to a future overseas, and recently told Soccer Laduma that he was now fulfilling a promise that he made to himself.

There is no doubt that the defender could have earned himself more money by remaining in South Africa either at Naturena or with a club like Mamelodi Sundowns, especially once his New York City FC deal had fallen through, however he kept up his attempts to leave Mzansi and was ultimately successful.
