Mosimane made five changes from the side that edged Tanta in their previous league outing, with Mohamed Hany, Ibrahim El Hanafi, Ahmed Fathy, Magdi Kafsha and Aliou Badji all getting the nod to start.
The hosts were on the front foot in the early stages as Mohamed Magdy came very close to opening the scoring in the 17th minute after seeing saved by goalkeeper Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud.
Al Ahly's pressure finally paid off nine minutes before the break after they were awarded a penalty following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review for a foul by Farouck Kabore inside the box.
After a lengthy wait, Amr El Soleya went up to take the spot-kick and made no mistake to break the deadlock with the first goal in the Mosimane era.
The Red Devils were under pressure in the early exchanges of the second stanza and their lead was only preserved by shot-stopper Aly Lofty who replaced the injuryed Mohamed El Shenawy in the first half.
Mosimane made a double a change just before the hour-mark, bringing on Geraldo in place of Hussein El Shahat for fresh legs in midfield while Marwan Mohsen replaced Aliou Badji in a straight swap upfront.
Al Ahly were finding their rhythm after that and Kahraba came close to doubling their lead in the last 20 minutes with a strike from outside the box that was saved by Aboul-Saoud.
Nevertheless, Mosimane's charges controlled the match in the closing phase to seal three points which sees the side move 18 points clear at the summit.
