University of Pretoria missed the chance to move top of the play-off table after drawing 1-1 with Baroka FC on Wednesday afternoon,

PSL Promotion Play-Offs

Result: Baroka 1-1 University of Pretoria

Date: 12 June 2024

Venue: Global Park

These two sides met a couple weeks ago in Pretoria, with AmaTuks needing a late goal to secure maximum points but the two sides played out 1-1 draws in the Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.

The opening exchanges of the first half proved to be quite an even affair,  although clear-cut chances were hard to come by at either ends of the pitch.

The game's first real opening fell to the home side after 27 minutes when a ball into box found Siyabonga Mtombeni, who took one touch before seeing his shot blocked.

That nearly changed with five minutes to play when AmaTuks' Thabang Sibonyani saw his header saved by goalkeeper Katlego, before Kabelo Kgositsile squandered a glorious chance at the other by blazing over the crossbar in the six yard box.

Baroka were made to rue that miss as AmaTuks took the lead a couple minutes later when Sibanyoni beat Molefe to the ball in the box and squared the ball for Delano Abrahams to tap into an empty net.

The home side came out firing in the second period and levelled matters in the 69th minute when Annais Gebhardt lost his marker and sent a darting header into the far corner.

Baroka should have completed the turnaround a few minutes later but Sekela Sithole failed to profit after sending effort over the target from just inside the box, much the frustration of the home fans.

The home side were camped win the opposition half in the latter stages of the second half but neither side were able to find a winning goal and were forced to settle for a point.

As a result, AmaTuks remain in second spot but are level on points with leaders Richards Bay, who they face on Saturday while Baroka sit on two points with one more match to play.

Here's how they lined up:
