As Orlando Pirates prepare to usher in a new era following the departure of Jose Riveiro, the club is expected to maintain one of the most impactful legacies of the Spanish tactician – youth promotion.
Insiders at the Soweto giants have confirmed that the next head coach will be mandated not only to compete for silverware in the Betway Premiership, domestic cups, and the CAF Champions League, but also to continue investing in the club’s future by giving young talent an opportunity to shine on the senior stage.

In Riveiro’s final match in charge – a commanding 3-0 win over Golden Arrows at Orlando Stadium – Cemran Dansin became the latest youngster to make his debut for the Buccaneers, underlining the commitment to youth development under the outgoing coach.
During his time at the club, Riveiro handed debuts to a number of talented youngsters, including: Relebohile Mofokeng, Thabiso Sesane, Mohau Nkota, Siyabonga Ndlozi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Simphiwe Selepe and Yanga Madiba.
This strategic direction is set to continue as the club looks to build a strong foundation for long-term success by balancing immediate results with sustainable player development.

“Pirates are proud of the work done with their young players. The next coach will have to be aligned with that vision. It’s not just about results, it’s about the future,” said an insider close to the club.
With Pirates continuing to invest in their development structures and scouting across South Africa and the continent, the next coach will have a key role in shaping the next generation of Buccaneers stars.
