Monare Exclusive: Pirates Future & Longevity

Thabang Monare has spoken about the future of Orlando Pirates as the young talent is seemingly leading in taking the club to the next level.

Monare parted ways with Pirates at the end of last season, closing the chapter with the Soweto giants after serving the team for four years since arriving from the now defunct Bidvest Wits in 2020.

With the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng, Thalente Mbatha and Thabiso Sesane doing well for the Soweto giants as they have also been getting the recognition of the national team, Monare feels that it is only to the benefit of the club to be taking that route with the youngsters.

"The future looks bright for the players and for the club. The club has brought in good players and those boys are extremely talented. They are doing well for the club and at national team level. I mean, the numbers are there and what more can I say? Everyone can see that the club knows what they are doing in that they are planning for a better future for themselves," said Monare, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

Dash, as the 35-year-old midfielder is known in football circles, has been one of the livewires for Sekhukhune United in their impressive start to the season.

Monare has scored a goal and bagged an assist as Babina Noko have won two and drawn one in their opening three games, and he explains what has kept him going in over 15 years of professional football.

"With me, the difference is that I have never lost the hunger. As a person, once you get full, you don't want to eat anymore. But for me, the more I have been part of success in my career, the more I wanted more of it, and I didn't want to lose it. When you don't want to lose success, it makes you want to be on top of your game. You are always the first one to have an introspection of your performances and always seek improvement. Even at this age, I'm still learning about the game and I'm still trying to better myself in how I try to be successful and win. Now that I am with Sekhukhune United, I am trying to be successful with the club and win as much as I can. I'm trying to help the club to be where it wants to be in wanting to be known as one of the best in the country and the one that is capable of winning trophies. I never rested, and with that in mind, I will always push myself to remain at my best. For me, it is never enough, I can still be better, and I can still win trophies, while also helping the youngsters in the team. I'm trying to be a leader by actions," said Monare.
