Pirates Eyeing Young Talent For Senior Team Promotion

Pirates Eyeing Young Talent For Senior Team Promotion

Orlando Pirates have not made any signings during the January transfer window, and news reaching the Siya crew, is that another young talent has caught the eye of coach Jose Riveiro and his technical team.

The club has turned its attention to their DDC side, with Neo Mokoena understood to have impressed the technical staff.

Indications are that the discussions are underway to promote the youngster to the senior team, after exceptional performances with the DDC side.

"He is a winger. A very good winger. I think they are doing it for this season. They are looking beyond this season already. You know this is how they did with Mohau Nkota. They promoted him and he had been training with the first team until this season. Now it's Neo (Mokoena) as well as defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi who is training with the first team. Both have been impressive and it's apparently believed that the coach and the technical team are happy with their progress," the insider revealed to the Siya crew.

Suggestions are that Pirates are planning a squad revamp next season, with a blend of youth and experience aimed at balancing the team for their campaign across multiple competitions.

"Next season they could play in all the five tournaments. The MTN 8, Carling Knockout, Nedbank Cup, Premiership and CAF Champions League so they need fresh legs as well as experienced players," the source added.

Currently, Pirates have players such as Relebohile Mofokeng, Mohau Nkota, Thabiso Sesane, Siyabonga Ndlozi, and Boitumelo Radiopane from their development side featuring in the first team.

The Siya crew reached out to Pirates for comment, but attempts were unsuccessful.
