Pirates To Open Opportunities For Skilful Midfielder?

Pirates To Open Opportunities For Skilful Midfielder?

Ntsako Makhubela

Orlando Pirates could listen to offers for one of their stars as further player movements are expected at the club in the January transfer window, according to sources.

For the start of the 2022/23 season, the Buccaneers had the likes of Tshegofatso Mabasa, Bongani Sam, Nkanyiso Zungu and Boitumelo Radiopane sent on loan along with Azola Matrose and Azola Tshobeni among others.

Following the progress made by the team after winning the MTN8 under new coach Jose Riveiro and the notable contribution of new players from the last transfer window, indications are that further changes could be made to the squad, according to sources.

Despite the notable progress by the team under the Spanish coach, questions have been raised from some sections of the fans about the omission of skilful midfielder Ntsako Makhubela from his matchday squad.

When asked about the player earlier in the season, Riveiro didn't paint a positive picture on when the dribbling wizard could be expected on the field.

"Well about Neverdie (Makhubela), well we can take only 20 players to the list, 11 to the starting 11 and five substitutions and that's the math. So we cannot take everyone. I try to take ones that we feel, or that I feel are going to help us with the game, I've explained this many times," Riveiro told journalists at the time.

Makhubela was signed from Golden Arrows last year under former Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi who had also coached him at the Lamontville-based club where he did well.

The 28-year-old is reportedly frustrated by his lack of game-time and is willing to go out on loan should he get the blessing of the Soweto giants.

"Like any other player in his situation, Ntsako Makhubela isn't happy with his lack of game-time. He is a good and ambitious boy, and his situation is understandable. The good thing is that Pirates isn't a club that closes doors for players and should there be a need for him to be afforded an opportunity to go on loan elsewhere he will be granted permission," said the source.

Abafana Bes'thende and Chippa United are some of the clubs believed to be monitoring the situation with Makhubela at Bucs closely.
