Orlando Pirates Are Busiest Absa Premiership Club In Transfer Window

Orlando Pirates will begin their pre-season with a new-look squad, following some of the changes made by the club.

The Buccaneers have emerged as the busiest of the Absa Premiership clubs so far during the transfer window, with the side having officially confirmed signing seven players so far, while nine players have been released.

Pirates have signed French goalkeeper Joris Delle, as well as six other players from various clubs in the Absa Premiership in Kabelo Dlamini, Bongani Sam, Tshegofatso Mabasa (Bloemfontein Celtic), Fortune Makaringe, Siphesihle Ndlovu (Maritzburg United) and Tebogo Tlolane (Chippa United).

The players who have been released from Bucs so far during the transfer window are long-serving defender Thabo Matlaba, Abbubaker Mobara, Jackson Mabokgwane, Ayanda Nkosi and Thabo Qalinge, while Gladwin Shitolo, Phetso Maphanga, Diamond Thopola and Caio Marcelo have joined Chippa United, following an agreement between the Soweto giants and the Eastern Cape club.

With coach Milutin Sredojevic and his technical team, as well as new Finnish coach Jyri Nieminen who replaced Andrew Sparkes as the team's goalkeeper coach, set to take the players through their paces during the pre-season, the Siya crew takes a look at what Pirates' squad will look like for the upcoming season.

Pirates' existing players excluding the new signings for the 2019/20 season include: 

Goalkeepers: Brilliant Khuzwayo, Siyabonga Mpontshane and Wayne Sandilands  

Defenders: Justice Chabalala, Mthokozisi Dube, Happy Jele, Abel Mabaso, Innocent Maela, Paseka Mako, Asavela Mbekile, Alfred Ndengane, Ntsikelelo Nyauza

Midfielders: Thembinkosi Lorch, Kudakwashe Mahachi, Augustine Mahlonoko, Mpho Makola and Meshack Maphangule (both on transfer list), Luvuyo Memela, Xola Mlambo, Linda Mntambo, Ben Motshwari, Musa Nyatama and Vincent Pule      

Strikers: Thamsanqa Gabuza, Augustine Mulenga and Justin Shonga

The Buccaneers will be expected to also make a decision on few other players, who have been on loan with other clubs in the Absa Premiership and NFD respectively during the course of the 2018/19 season.

Some of those players include Tercious Malepe, Zakhele Lepasa, Yusuf Maart, Lehlohonolo Mtshali, Siphumelele Mbulu, Brian Hlongwa and Sandile Mthethwa.
