Last Night At Pirates For Bucs Legends

Last Night At Pirates For Bucs Legends

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - DECEMBER 07: Miguel Timm of Orlando Pirates during the CAF Champions League match between Orlando Pirates and Al Ahly SC

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Orlando Pirates are expected to part ways with some of their experienced players at the end of their contracts in June.

Now insiders close to the club have indicated that Pirates' game against Magesi FC on Wednesday evening is believed to be the last for two of these players.

The sources added that Bucs captain Innocent Maela and midfielder Miguel Timm are the players who would be appearing in the team's colours for the last time, at Orlando Stadium.

"I can tell you today is the last day for Innocent (Maela). What I can't confirm is whether he will play or not but it's believed that that poster of saying 'goodbye' is already prepared for him. Just like they did with Happy Jele, the club has given Maela a chance to either stay on at the team in a different capacity or if he still wants to continue playing then he can join a team of his choice. But today is believed to be his last day at Pirates as a player," the insider told Soccer Laduma.

A second insider revealed that it's the same situation for Timm but the difference is that the former Marumo Gallants midfielder is understood to be leaving the team as his contract expires.

"As for Timm, I think you know that the club won't be renewing his contract and that's why he is leaving. Just like Maela, his goodbye poster is also believed to have been prepared already. So today it's the two of them who are apparently leaving the club," the second insider stated.

These departures mark a significant changing of the guard at Orlando Stadium following a season of both promise and disappointment. Maela, who has served as captain and given years of service to the Buccaneers, follows in the footsteps of club legend Jele. For Timm, who joined Pirates after impressing at Marumo Gallants, his exit signals the club's intent to refresh their midfield options ahead of next season.

As Pirates prepare for a new era under fresh leadership following Jose Riveiro's departure, these player exits represent the first steps in what could be a significant squad overhaul during the upcoming transfer window.

Orlando Pirates have since confirmed the departure of Timm, following the 1-1 draw against Magesi on Wednesday. The club has expressed their appreciation for the player on their official X account.
