Kelly Khumalo Called By One Of Accused - Court Told Meyiwa Case

Samata Bwana Ally of TP Mazembe battles with Senzo Meyiwa of Orlando Pirates during the 2013 CAF Champions League match between TP Mazembe and Orlando Pirates on 05 May 2013 at TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi

There has been progress in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case as the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria heard damning information from one of the witnesses regarding the football star's mysterious death.

A data analyst and investigation officer Colonel Lambertus Steyn, who is the State's fourth witness, told the court that singer and actress Kelly Khumalo who was Meyiwa's girlfriend at the time had allegedly received calls from one of the five men accused of the goalkeeper's death prior to his passing.

According to what the court heard, cellphone records of all the people who were in the Vosloorus house, where Meyiwa was shot and killed on the night, have been analysed by Steyn.

Meyiwa was shot and killed on 26 October 2014 in a house belonging to Kelly and Zandile Khumalo's mother Ntombi in Vosloorus in what was reported to be a botched robbery at the time.

Five men were arrested for the murder, and they are Fisokuhle Ntuli, Bongani Ntanzi, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Mthobisi Mncube and Mthokoziseni Maphisa.

In a surprise twist of events as the trial continues under a new judge in Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng, the court heard that Ntuli, who is one of the accused, allegedly called Khumalo at least two times, first in August 2014 and on 15 October 2014, which was a few days before the footballer was killed, as per cellphone records as analysed by Steyn.

The trial continues and all of the accused men are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition, and so far the prosecutor has said Kelly was not on its list of witnesses, while Zandile was the first witness to testify in the retrial of the Meyiwa murder case.
