Khanye: The Only PSL Star To Compare Mofokeng With

Relebohile Mofokeng of Orlando Pirates during the CAF Champions League 2024/25 Orlando Pirates Press Conference and Training at Orlando Stadium, Soweto on 06 December 2024

Junior Khanye has picked the only player in the PSL that he believes can be compared to Orlando Pirates' wonderkid Relebohile Mofokeng at the moment.

With Pirates set to take on Egyptian giants Al Ahly at the sold out Orlando Stadium this afternoon, Mofokeng is one of the players that Jose Riveiro will be looking at to produce the magic like he did in the earlier match in the CAF Champions League where Pirates defeated CR Belouizdad in Algeria last Tuesday.

Mofokeng provided assists for both goals scored by Mohau Nkota in that match as the Buccaneers emerged 2-1 victors.

According to Khanye, the only other player in the PSL that could be compared to Mofokeng with talent and contribution to his team is Lucas Ribeiro whose Mamelodi Sundowns will also be in action tonight in the Champions League against FAR Rabat in Morocco.

"I would like to give credit to Jose Riveiro on how he has managed to integrate the youngsters at Pirates into the first team, especially this boy Relebohile Mofokeng. It takes guts for a coach to throw youngsters into the deep end at a big club like Pirates, and for that the coach deserves credit. Look at the boy now, he is a Bafana Bafana international, and he should be starting matches," said Khanye.

"I don't see any player like him in the Betway Premiership at the moment except for (Lucas) Ribeiro from Sundowns, the Brazilian. I think they are kind of similar in the way they play, and Ribeiro is the only one, and I can't think of any player that comes close to Mofokeng. I like Mofokeng's movements whether with or without the ball, he is just something else. Technically, he is very good. Looking at his age and what he can still do, I think South Africa is fortunate to have a player like him as we are still to witness the best from him, and I'm not just talking about Pirates but the national team as well," Khanye added.
