Nedbank Cup Semi-Final

Result: Golden Arrows 1-3 TS Galaxy

Date: 20 April 2019

Venue: Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium

TS Galaxy kept their Nedbank Cup dream alive after progressing to the final after defeating Golden Arrows 3-1 in extra-time on Saturday afternoon.

Arrrows coach Steve Komphela went for the big guns in the attack as Knox Mutizwa partnered Lerato Lamola in the attack, as both strikers had already netted two goals each in the campaign.

It was an evenly contested affair in the opening exchanges, and Dan Malesela's troops were not backing down from the Absa Premiership outfit.

Steve Komphela's charges took control from the midway point of the half, but even with the possession on their side, they were unable to carve out clear-cut chances.

Unfortunately, that proved to be the trend for the rest of the half, with Arrows' Denny Venter going closest with an effort from distance just before the break.

It was more of the same in the second half, which prompted Steve Komphela to introduce Sanele Mathenjwa 10 minutes into the stanza.

The decision paid off for Komphela as Mathenjwa won the home side a penalty, which Mutizwa converted to hand Arrows the lead with his third goal of the tournament on 70 minutes.

Galaxy threw bodies forward in search of an equaliser, but Arrows shot-stopper Maximilian Mbaeva produced a couple good interventions to keep the visitors at bay.

The visitors were rewarded in second-half stoppage time as Arrows' Sandile Zuke deflected the ball into his own net while trying to clear a goal-bound effort, just moments after Mutizwa hit the upright at the other end.

The game ultimately went to extra-time, but both sides looked happy to go to penalties as there was no real sense of urgency from both ends.   However, Galaxy went ahead two minutes into second-half extra-time as a well-worked passing move ended with Zakhele Lepasa send the ball into the top corner.   In an attempt to force a penalty shoot-out, Arrows threw everything forward in search of an equaliser in the final stages of the half.   Galaxy sealed the win with two minutes left in the game as Lepasa completed his brace to send the NFD outfit to the final.   Here's how they lined up:   Arrows:  1. Mbaeva, 29. Sibisi, 28. Bilankulu, 5. Mzava, 13. Lunga, 14. Dube, 6. Zuke. 4. Venter, 12. Ndwandwe, 4. Venter, 41. Lamola, 18. Mutizwa.
