Kaizer Chiefs were taken to extra-time once again as they defeated third tier outfit The Magic FC 3-0 to advance to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.

Ryan Moon earned a rare start upfront, while Ernst Middendorp opted to start Bruce Bvuma ahead of Virgil Vries in Daniel Akpeyi's absence.

Ernst Middendorp's charges came close to getting an early goal as Happy Mashiane unleashed a left-footed strike from range that missed the bottom post by inches, but Moon had a better chance for Chiefs in the 20th minute although he could only rattle the upright from close range.

As Chiefs continued to dominate, another opportunity arose as Moon played a teasing square ball into the path of Hendrick Ekstein, who was eventually thwarted by Magic goalkeeper Bulelani Cola.

The men from Cape Town struggled to get on the ball for majority of the half and spent most of the time defending crosses, which they managed to deal with as the lively Happy Mashiane was let down by his delivery on a few occasions.

Unfortunately, that was the trend for the rest of the half as Chiefs only other opening arrived through a Daniel Cardoso header that sailed over the crossbar as the Magic shot-stopper was largely untested.

After a host of missed chances in the first stanza, Middendorp made his first change at the beginning of the second stanza as Khama Billiat replaced Ekstein.   Magic nearly took a surprisingly lead as Wade Crowie was afforded a glorious chance in the box, but his half-volley sailed over the bar. Castro had even a better chance for Amakhosi ten minutes later after going through inside the box he struck over the bar with the net gaping as the frustration grew among the supporters.   Chiefs applied the pressure in the closing stages but they could not find the breakthrough as the Magic defence stood firm, forcing the game into extra-time.   Amakhosi were handed a lifeline in the 105th minute later after they were awarded a penalty when Billiat was brought down in the box. Daniel Cardoso stepped up to break the deadlock with a thumping low strike down the middle.   Philani Zulu, who replaced Mashiane just after the first stanza of extra-time, doubled the lead for Chiefs with eight minute remaining after turning home a cross from Dumisani Zuma.   Billiat rounded off the scoring in the final minute of the game as Zuma picked up his second assist by teeing up the Zimbabwean, who buried the ball home as Chiefs advance to the quarter-finals.   Other result:   TS Galaxy advanced to the last after defeating Jomo Cosmos 1-0 thanks to an own goal from Ange Lebahi.   Here's how they lined up:   Magic: 1.
