Despite conceding a goal after only 70 seconds, the Team of Choice fought back to secure a 3-1 win over the Brazilians in a Nedbank Cup semi-final match on Sunday.
Makaringe, in particular, was superb in the middle of the park for Maritzburg where he caused constant problems for the Sundowns defence and even scored his side's third goal.
He was handed the 'man of the match' award for his efforts, but re-emphasized the importance of working as a team to achieve success.
"All credit to the team," said Makaringe.
"We were playing against a world class team. Without any doubt Mamelodi Sundowns is a world class team.
"We had to come out here and do it for everyone who has been behind us all the way.
"We were very determined to win this game.
"We knew the purpose of being in a team was greater than the individual. Everyone had to come out and do it for the team.
"Our coach (Fadlu Davids) always encourages us to believe. We need to believe in our abilities. I think it paid off at the end of the day."
