Bloemfontein Celtic coach John Maduka confirms MDC promotions

Bloemfontein Celtic coach John Maduka confirms MDC promotions

As Bloemfontein Celtic coach John Maduka looks to secure a lucrative Nedbank Cup final berth this weekend, the Malawian mentor has added a promising youngster to his team.

Speaking to the media at a press conference, the 49-year-old opened up on his team's preparation during these unchartered times.

With Baroka FC in his sights, Maduka revealed that he would be maintaining the core of his squad for the bio-bubble but has promoted three youngsters from the club's MDC team.

Among them is leading marksmen Mokene Mereko, who has been in scintillating form for Abram 'wire' Nteo's squad, where he was the leading goalscorer.

"There are a couple of them (MDC players) that have been training with us we've got Khotso the midfielder, we have Mereko, we have Robert the right back. We have a couple of them knowing that there'll be more games," Maduka said.

Meanwhile Maduka also provided an update on former Orlando Pirates striker Tokelo Rantie, who has been training with Siwelele before lockdown in the hope of securing a PSL contract after almost three years in the wilderness.

"Tokelo is still with us, he's training with the team unfortunately because of the lockdown, we had to release all the players but he has joined us. He's been doing well but we haven't had any friendly games and that is the area when you are assessing a player, you see him in a game situation.

"He's still with the team, he's still working very hard, getting better and we hope that he continues his hard work and we'll see what happens. A decision will be made in the coming season. We will not sign him for the remaining games but he's still with the team and he's training well," Maduka explained.

Celtic will kick-start proceedings in the Nedbank Cup when they take on Baroka FC on Saturday afternoon.
