Sales Tipped To Prove Critics Wrong At Sundowns

Sales Tipped To Prove Critics Wrong At Sundowns

Fiacre Ntwari of Kaizer Chiefs challenged by Arthur Sales of Mamelodi Sundowns during the 2024 Carling Knockout Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on 02 November 2024

Mamelodi Sundowns appear to be drawing inspiration from Peter Shalulile for other players to also score goals, including an expensive new signing.

In some of the matches he has played so far this season, Sales has appeared to struggle in front of goal, with the Brazilian yet to open his account.

To be fair to the 22-year-old though, he has also been disrupted by an injury on his progress amid also working on acclimatising himself to the new environment in the PSL.

Against Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Knockout Cup on Saturday after coming on for Shalulile in the last five minutes, Sales came close to scoring, having managed to put the ball in the back of the net but the strike was adjudged to have been from an offside position.

The Brazilian player's move to the champions in July has been one of the major talking points in local football after he was reportedly signed for R64 million from Belgian club Lommel SK.

Meanwhile, with Shalulile looking to have discovered his form as he has been scoring goals in recent matches after a dry spell in the early stages of the season, indications from sources are that the same could be coming for Sales.

Earlier indications had been that there might have been doubts about Sales, if he was going to be able to adapt quickly and start scoring goals but that doesn't seem to be a concern for the club.

"He is a good player, and maybe much better than people think of him at the moment. The guy is working hard at training, and it is only a matter of time before he starts scoring. The injury he suffered in the Champions League was a bit of a setback, but he is now back and looking good at training and from the minutes he has got in official matches. His situation could be like that of Shalulile who had also been struggling (for goals) but is now scoring. The boy will do well," said the source.
