Mamelodi Sundowns forward Iqraam Rayners has expressed disappointment after being overlooked for all categories in the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League (PSL) awards despite producing arguably one of the most prolific seasons of his career.

Speaking candidly on the Pitchside Podcast, Rayners opened up about the emotional sting of the snub, revealing that his omission from the nominees list came as a surprise given his standout numbers: 26 goals and 10 assists in 54 matches across all competitions.
“I had a good season with a good team, good players, and coaches who believed in me,” Rayners said.
“Obviously I was disappointed when I saw the players they nominated. Don’t you think my stats were good enough to be among the nominees?”
While acknowledging that his Sundowns teammate Lucas Ribeiro Costa had rightly claimed the top spot, Rayners maintained that his own performances warranted recognition at least as a runner-up.
“I think the best player for me in the league was Lucas, obviously. I’m second after Lucas. You know, other people don’t see it like that… so obviously I was disappointed,” he added.
Rayners’s campaign saw him deliver week-in, week-out for a star-studded Sundowns side chasing silverware on multiple fronts.
