A few weeks ago, when Kaizer Chiefs departed for their pre-season training camp in the Netherlands, reports suggested the club had reached an agreement on a one-year contract extension with one of their midfielders.
However, insiders close to the team have indicated that despite initial progress, no formal contract has yet been signed between Amakhosi and George Matlou, whose previous deal expired on 30 June.

Sources with reliable information stated that financial terms have become the sticking point in finalizing the midfielder's new deal.
"The negotiations started and the player was offered a one-year extension, but it's believed the talks hit a snag due to financial details in the contract, which all the involved parties need to agree upon as it's supposed to be an improved contract from the one he signed three years ago when he joined the club. That's what is holding up the final agreement and signing of the new contract," the insider told Soccer Laduma.
Despite these complications, a second source stated that both the club's management and technical team remain committed to retaining the player for the upcoming season.

"He is believed to be in the coach's plans and he is believed to have made it known to management, and that's why they are looking at finalising the negotiations and tying him to the club for at least one more year," the second insider revealed.
Matlou joined Amakhosi in 2022 from Moroka Swallows after a stint in Portugal. The 27-year-old midfielder has made a fair amount of Betway Premiership appearances during his three-year tenure at Naturena.
Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment regarding the contract negotiations but received no response at the time of publishing.
