Modise: I Can Imagine The Stress Chiefs Have

Teko Modise has advised Kaizer Chiefs to take a leaf out of Mamelodi Sundowns' book when it comes to the club's recent struggles.

Like the rest of the country, the legendary midfielder has been trying to wrap his head around what has gone wrong for Chiefs and how they go about fixing it.

The Glamour Boys have not won a major trophy since 2015 and recently came off their worst domestic season ever.

But all hope is not lost for Chiefs according to 'The General' who suggests that they look to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2012 prior to Pitso Mosimane taking charge, where the club found themselves lingering at the bottom of the log table.

Sundowns would go on to dominate for the next decade and beyond, something that Chiefs could do amid their current struggles.

"The thing is like, as much as everybody needs Kaizer Chiefs to be competitive, who are we to put a time frame on transition?" Modise asked members of the media at the SuperSport Euro 2024 launch in Sandton.

"Teams do transition. When Coach Pitso (Mosimane) came through (to Sundowns), we were last on the log and then what happened then? Then Mamelodi Sundowns became what it is. But when we were transitioning it was a problem. Before Sundowns started winning with coach Pitso. How many leagues were they winning with all the new players coming in, the coaches coming in, so there was no stability….

"So, now you just need to find the right coach and what is the right coach? If you have to ask? So it's a big question, especially for a team that is transitioning, it's very difficult. And it's unfortunate that you have fans that are very demanding because Sundowns and Pirates are winning trophies. You want them [Chiefs] to be competing. And you also want them to win a trophy but that transition period is very difficult because then you need to find the right players and for you to really find the right players, you only know when they start playing.
"I can imagine the stress that they have because they also want to see the team compete. We wanna see the team compete. If Chiefs, Sundowns and Pirates compete, the league becomes exciting," he concluded.
