Mamelodi Sundowns are taking strategic steps to ensure the long-term stability of their defensive unit, with moves underway to extend a key defender's contract nearly a year before its expiration date.
Insiders close to the club have indicated that the Brazilians are determined to avoid the protracted negotiations they experienced with Khuliso Mudau, opting instead for an early approach to secure Grant Kekana's services beyond his current deal.

Sources close to the player have added that Sundowns have offered Kekana a new two-year contract extension that would keep him at Chloorkop until 2028, well before his current agreement expires in June 2026.
"They have a different approach for different players and for Grant (Kekana) they are taking this approach to secure his future well in advance. He may be ready to sign a pre-contract in December and that's what they are believed to be trying to avoid. It's believed to be a two-year straight contract from July 2026 to June 2028 by which time he will be 34-years-old," the insider told Soccer Laduma.

Meanwhile, a second source explained that this contract offer forms part of a broader defensive reinforcement strategy by the South African champions.
"They have already secured the future of Divine Lunga, Khuliso Mudau, Aubrey Modiba and have long-term contracts with other defenders as well. Now they are intending to tie down Grant Kekana. That's their plan of having a strong defence for a long time," the second insider explained.
The Bafana Bafana defender joined Sundowns in 2021 from SuperSport United and has established himself as a reliable performer in the Brazilians backline. Last season, the 32-year-old featured in most matches, and his consistent performances have earned him a nomination for Defender of the Season.
