With a few weeks left until the end of the season, Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe is fighting to ensure he stays beyond the expiration of his contract.

The Siya crew has reported that the player is likely to make an exit when his contract expires at the end of June, but the former AmaZulu man is currently using the opportunities he is getting from interim coach Cavin Johnson to raise his hand for a possible extension.

Sithebe, at some point, struggled with injury and game time. It was difficult since Amakhosi's technical team preferred the likes of Yusuf Maart, Edson Castillo and Sibongiseni Mthethwa in the middle of the park.

From playing just one match in the first half of the season, the 31-year-old has featured in five consecutive matches for the club, though it's come at a difficult time when Amakhosi have been struggling to secure positive results.

The 2-1 victory over SuperSport this past weekend was a big boost for the club and would no doubt have given the experienced midfielder some confidence in trying to make sure he keeps his place in the team until the end of the season, with management set to make a decision on his future in the coming weeks.

It's believed that there is some interest in the midfielder and a decision on what happens next in his career will be communicated by the club once the season is over, as the club is focused on making sure that they finish in the top eight.

Some of the other players at Chiefs who have contracts expiring at the end of June are Sifiso Hlanti, Njabulo Ngcobo, Edmilson Dove, George Matlou and Keagan Dolly, while loanee Jasond Gonzalez is set for an exit when his deal lapses.
