Bvuma: I Am Not Just Performing For A Contract

Bvuma: I Am Not Just Performing For A Contract

Kaizer Chiefs haven't had it easy in the goalkeeping stakes this season, where the struggle for a settled number one had become a hot topic at the club.

The interim appointment of Cavin Johnson late last year coincided with stability in the last line of defence when he recalled Bruce Bvuma, who played the last four matches of the past year.

With Brandon Petersen and Itumeleng Khune both struggling to hold onto the goalkeeping position regularly for various reasons, Bvuma impressed when given the opportunity.

Before then, Bvuma was on the fringes of selection and even touted for a move away but with his contract expiring at the end of this season, he hasn't cast his mind away from the club and wants to focus on the task at hand.

"Of course, I'm not only performing well because my contract is coming to an end but for me as a player, I set targets for myself that I'd like to perform for the team and I want the team to win," Bvuma told SABC Sport.

"I want to do well for me and my family because there's a lot of people that are looking up to us. I have a village that I need to take care of by the way.

"So, I'm not only performing for myself, I have a lot of people I need to perform for so that I can take care of them," he added.

Bvuma broke through to the Amakhosi first-team back in the 2016/17 season as a relatively unknown when he was thrown in the deep end with his league debut against Cape Town City which they had lost 3-2. Under Johnson, the 28-year-old looked to have revived himself and may yet have a future at Chiefs.
