Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba believes he’s shown enough to stake his claim as a leading figure in the club’s attacking setup, despite increased competition from new arrivals Flavio Silva and Etiosa Ighodaro.
Speaking at the Nedbank multipurpose court handover at Phulong Secondary School in Springs on Wednesday, Duba reflected on his growth and readiness to take on the responsibility of leading the line for Amakhosi.
“I think last season I did show, not too much, but I did show that I'm ready for anything and I'm willing to play because I choose to be a striker,” he said.
“I'm happy now that I have Iga and Flavio that I've learnt from because they've been there and they always coach me and train me. So, I'm willing to play.”

The 21-year-old has been part of Chiefs’ youth-driven resurgence, and while Silva and Ighodaro bring pedigree and experience, Duba insists that their presence only fuels his hunger to improve.
“Even last season with the other strikers that were there, they were pushing me to always work hard and be number one. So, I don't think with them arriving will change a lot but I'll still train hard. If I have to play then I'll play.”
