A former Kaizer Chiefs player feels the club could have given Itumeleng Khune a chance to remain captain of the club, despite his temporary separation from the first team.
Amakhosi announced last week that the experienced goalkeeper is not part of the first team temporarily following an investigation into allegations that the former Bafana Bafana shot-stopper got to training under the influence of alcohol.

His suspension included the stripping of the captain's armband, but former defender Mokete Tsotetsi feels the club could have been a bit more lenient in this regard and still keep him as captain while he works on getting himself back into the team.
Tsotetsi played with Khune during his time at Naturena and knows the leadership qualities the 36-year-old possesses. While he is in favour of the goalkeeper getting punished for his behaviour, Tsotetsi believes he should have remained captain of the club.
"In my opinion, the team should have sat him down as a leader. As a leader, you need to be sat down and find out the reasons. Maybe they should not have stripped off the leadership badges. It shows that maybe they were waiting for him to make a mistake, so that they can strip it off. One can think of so many things because you don't just judge a person by one mistake," Tsotetsi said to the Siya crew.

"You can get punished, but still remain the leader because you can't just wake up one day and not be a leader. If you are a leader, then you are a leader, even if you make mistakes. Everyone will make mistakes. It doesn't mean you are no longer a leader if you make mistakes. He is a human."
