As Kaizer Chiefs continue their search for an experienced left-back, the club is reportedly reconsidering one of their earlier targets, the Siya crew has been informed.
Tanzania international Mohamed Hussein of Simba SC is believed to be wanted by Amakhosi, according to insiders privy to information.
While Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien remains their primary target, the insiders have indicated that Chiefs have reignited their interest in the Simba man.
According to sources close to the player and Chiefs, Amakhosi are exploring options to strengthen their left side of defence as part of their squad revamp for next season.
"It's true they are looking at promoting youngster Kabelo Nkgwesa but as a cover up. They are looking at Hussein again if they can't get Basadien from Stellenbosch. They have been monitoring the Tanzanian for a long time now and they believe his experience in Africa for both the club and country would help the team. But for now, Basadien remains the first choice then Hussein if they can't get the Bafana Bafana left back," the insider told Soccer Laduma.
A second insider stated that the potential arrival of Hussein, or any new left-back, could signal the departure of defenders Edmilson Dove and Zitha Kwinika, as Chiefs aim to create space for their new recruits.
"They were believed to be looking at keeping Dove because he qualifies as a local but both him and Zitha Kwinika could be some of the defenders released to create space for Hussein or any other defenders they are looking at signing," the second source told the Siya crew.
Hussein has been consistent this season with Simba SC, particularly shining in the CAF Confederation Cup, where his performances have impressed potential suitors, as his club recently knocked out Stellies to reach the Confederation Cup final.
Soccer Laduma reached out to Chiefs for comment, but no response was received at the time of publishing.
