Chiefs Leading The Way In One Key Area

Chiefs Leading The Way In One Key Area

They may not have had the most consistent season, but Kaizer Chiefs are leading in an area that could inspire them to success in the future.

Amakhosi are out of the title race and run the risk of finishing yet another campaign without a trophy, unless they do not choke in the Nedbank Cup, with Royal AM up next in the quarterfinals.

From the team Amakhosi have registered this season, 10 of the players have come through their structures in the last five years or so.

The Soweto giants have often been questioned if the quality in their squad is good enough to compete with dominant side Mamelodi Sundowns, but they are giving their products an opportunity to get first team action, though their progress is sometimes overshadowed by the team's struggles season in and out.

The 10 players Amakhosi have registered are Siyabonga Ngezana, Bruce Bvuma, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Happy Mashiane, Sabelo Radebe, Mduduzi Shabalala, Samkelo Zwane, Wandile Duba, Karabo Molefe and Aiden McCarthy.

While not all of the players have been able to break into the starting line-up, Amakhosi have proven that they have talent within their ranks to play in the first team.

DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns are not too far off at the moment, with players also coming through from the Diski Challenge side. In the current squad, Sundowns have Sphelele Mkhulise, Cassius Mailula, Jerome Karelse, Ntando Nkosi and Thando Buthelezi, while 16-year-old Siyabonga Mabena recently made a first team debut.

Golden Arrows and Stellenbosch FC are two other clubs with more than five players who have come through the Diski Challenge and are currently registered with the first team.
