Four Headaches For Chiefs' Zwane Ahead Of Soweto Derby

After watching his side miss out on a place in the MTN8 final, Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has to solve a few problems to ensure the team avoids more disappointment in the Soweto Derby this weekend.

Amakhosi finished the game against AmaZulu without a shot on target in their goalless draw on Sunday and this is one of the areas Zwane has to address, especially as they prepare to come up against one of the tightest defences in the league.

Soccer Laduma looks at the headaches Zwane could have going into the clash.

1. Pirates' solid defence

Breaking the Pirates defence is going to be a big challenge for Amakhosi, who have shown in the past few weeks that they are not always able to take some of the most clear-cut opportunities. The Buccaneers have kept nine clean sheets in all competitions this season, using a system of three central defenders and two wing backs who form a key part of the attack when the team is going forward. Zwane would need to stress the importance of taking chances to his players, because Pirates might not give them too many openings to do as they please on derby day.

2. Stopping Erasmus Saleng

The Buccaneers seem to have found a partnership that could go on to cause problems for many teams in the PSL. Kermit Erasmus and Monnapule Saleng have formed a deadly partnership in the last two matches. Pirates were struggling in front of goal not so long ago, but with Chiefs struggling to consistently keep clean sheets, these two players will probably be itching to take advantage of their vulnerability.

3. Players struggling with form

It's often said that form does not count when going into the derby, but Zwane would no doubt be concerned about the form of some players going into the clash. Zitha Kwinika has not been at his best in recent weeks, so too Reeve Frosler, who has been struggling to whip some good crosses into the box when he is on the attack. Khama Billiat is yet to find his feet since returning from injury, while Ashley Du Preez's confidence seems to have taken a knock in recent weeks with some glorious opportunities wasted by the player.

4. Will Bimenyimana be available?

Burundian striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana seemed to struggle with injury in the MTN8 clash against AmaZulu and his availability remains in doubt. This will definitely be a headache for Zwane, who does not have too many options in the striking department.
