William "Cool Cat" Shongwe, a revered figure in South African football and former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, has voiced his support for Itumeleng Khune, asserting that the veteran goalkeeper is far from finished with football.
As Khune's contract with Chiefs approaches its June expiration, speculation about his future intensifies, especially with Sekhukhune United previously showing interest in acquiring his services.

However, Shongwe, in an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, firmly believes Khune has much more to contribute to the sport as a player.
"Khune has a lot to give as a player. He can't hang up his boots right now. Look at how he performed in that Carling All Stars game against Stellenbosch FC in January. It showed just how good he still is. So, if you are talking about him retiring I would day ''no, not now'. He can play until at least he is 40. You know, goalkeepers mature with age and his experience is also an important part in his game. So if he says he still wants to play then give him that chance to play until he wants to retire himself," Shongwe told the Siya crew.
Shongwe also touched on the high expectations surrounding Khune, attributed to the lofty standards he set earlier in his career.
"You know Khune set his standards too high and when he plays average it is considered a failure. So if it means he is moving to another team to prove himself then let it be," Shongwe remarked.
Shongwe suggested that a move to another team could offer Khune the opportunity to reaffirm his abilities, although he personally would prefer Khune to conclude his illustrious career at Chiefs.
"I would have really liked him to stay and finish his career at Chiefs because he is a legend of the club but if going to another club will prove that he is still good then let it be. He still has what it takes to play at a top level," Shongwe concluded.
Shongwe's endorsement comes at a crucial juncture in Khune's career, highlighting the goalkeeper's potential to continue influencing South African football, whether at Chiefs or elsewhere. Khune's journey is a testament to his resilience and skill, and as discussions about his future unfold, the football community watches eagerly, hoping for more chapters in the storied career of this South African football icon.
So, in effect, any thought of Khune returning to the field, would be understanding that this would probably mean he has to leave Chiefs for another PSL club.
