The first opportunity of the match fell to Leopards. Sibongiseni Mthethwa played a lovely ball in for Sibusiso Khumalo on the left-hand side of the box but he sliced a powerful effort wide of the upright on his favoured left foot.

Soon after, Itumeleng Khune inexplicably gave the ball away straight to Ovidy Karuru when trying to play a diagonal ball leaving his goal completely empty and the Zimbabwean held his composure to side-foot the ball in to the back of the net.

While Chiefs struggled to carve out chance,  it was 2-0 to the men from Limpopo on 22 minutes. The ball was switched from left to right before Tebogo Makobela whipped in a fantastic delivery to the back post for a completely unmarked Karuru, who headed home powerfully past a helpless Khune.

Former Golden Boot Award winner Rodney Ramagalela thought he had scored but his effort was ruled out for offside, before Leopards midfielder Donald Makgetlwa grazed the crossbar with a fizzing long-range effort.

Chiefs pulled a goal back in the 57th minute. Bernard Parker, on as a half-time substitute, dribbled through the heart of the Leopards before threading a slide-rule pass through for Ngcobo, who bundled the ball into the back of the net.

And soon after, Njabulo Blom's stinging drive forced King Ndlovu into tipping the ball over his bar. Blom then turned creator and played a similar pass to the one made by Parker earlier for Ngcobo, who this time could only hit the side netting.

After much pressure exerted by the Amakhosi, the equaliser finally came. A long throw by Kgotso Moleko caused pandemonium in the Leopards box with Ethan Sampson clearing the ball off Andriamirado 'Dax' Andrianarimanina. The ball rebounded off the bar and fell kindly to Billiat, who tapped home from close range for a dramatic leveller
