Big Money Not Enough To Lure Basadien To Chiefs?

Big Money Not Enough To Lure Basadien To Chiefs?

Fawaaz Basadien of Stellenbosch FC during the DStv Premiership match between his side and Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on 17 April 2024 in Polokwane, South Africa.

News reaching the Siya crew is that Kaizer Chiefs' offer for Stellenbosch left-back Fawaaz Basadien, has been turned down by the Winelands side, with the value of the bid now revealed.

Insiders close to Amakhosi have outlined that the Glamour Boys are believed to have made an initial offer of R10 million, to which Stellies turned down.

Indications are that Stellenbosch look to be open to discussions regarding the price tag on Basadien.

A source informed the Siya crew that talks behind the scenes have been ongoing.

"You know the club has been interested in Fawaaz (Basadien) for some time now. But what is of importance is that Chiefs made an offer of around R10 million and Stellenbosch rejected that offer. It's not clear whether it's because the money was (too little) or because they said he is not for sale," the source said to the Siya crew.

"What Stellenbosch is looking for is much more than what Chiefs have put on the table. But that's the offer that Chiefs made and at the moment they are looking at taking the discussions further and see how far they can go, as getting Fawaaz is concerned. It's a bid higher than the R10m," the source added.

A second source further indicated that Chiefs would not be willing to pay Stellies' asking price, which is understood to be in excess of R15 million.

"The club feels it wouldn't make sense if they could buy a player who is more than the league prize money. They offered what they felt was the right figure for a good defender like Basadien, but that was not good enough for Stellenbosch. It's not a secret they need an experienced left-back right now, but the money teams are asking could be the stumbling block for Chiefs.

"Imagine turning down R10m? How much can they offer now or how much can they pay?" the source wondered.

Soccer Laduma made attempts to reach out to Kaizer Chiefs as well as the player's representative Basia Michaels, but no response was received at the time of publishing.
