Zwane Backs Protege To Come Of Age: He's A Special Talent

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane threw caution to the wind in the Soweto Derby win over Orlando Pirates after boldly starting with perceived luxury midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

Ngcobo has been a fan favourite since was promoted to the first team in 2017 but he has previously struggled for game-time, with his small frame in midfield and creative talents sidelined over more industrious midfielders by former Chiefs coaches.

However, with Arthur Zwane, who has more intimate knowledge of what Ngcobo is capable of after nurturing his talent in the development ranks, appointed as head coach this season, 'Mshini' has been more involved in the core of the team, albeit mostly from the bench.

But expectations have risen again over Ngcobo's potential at the club after his impressive showing in the derby against Pirates almost two weeks ago.

Zwane says those who have been following 'Mshini' from his development days, would know that the best of him is yet to come.

"You'll notice how, if you have been following us from the development, how we were using 'Mshini' and yes he had challenges here and there where he got the situation he lost his father," Zwane said in a Carling Black Label Cup Soweto Derby pre-match conference.

"Except for that, at some point he was gaining confidence, with injuries here and there. But we know that Mshini is a special talent, there's no doubt about it.

"Yes, one thing for sure, a fully fit Mshini, without any off the field maybe challenges, like any other individual he'll always give you something special," he said.

"And I think people they have not seen him yet, especially in the first team because he's a special talent and I can tell you know once he gets to that level where we expect him to be, you'll see that he's a special player for us. So there's no doubt that we'll always try to help him to reach his full potential," he added.

The Amakhosi academy graduate will be hoping to continue his rise in the team under Zwane after he was voted in the official line-up that will play against Pirates on Saturday, announced by sponsors Carling Black Label on Monday evening.
