Nasreddine Nabi Talk Resurfaces

Nasreddine Nabi Talk Resurfaces

Going into their match this weekend against Richards Bay FC, Kaizer Chiefs are eighth on the log and at a risk of moving further down depending on the results of Saturday's matches.

Looking at the situation, not many may argue with the Amakhosi hierarchy for planning on bringing a new coach.

As confirmed by Chiefs' sporting director in the media recently, the club will be making technical team changes for next season.

Cavin Johnson, who is the team's interim coach is expected to return to his position as the Head of Academy, while there's also the future of Dillon Sheppard that needs to be sorted as his contract is coming to an end.

Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi is rumoured to be among the top candidates for the big job, although former Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane still regrets the missed opportunity with Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi who was strongly linked with the Soweto giants prior to the start of the season.

The Good

"For me, the club is at a stage where they need a coach who has got international experience and with a good track record of winning. I'm talking about someone like Nabi whom I understand came close to being appointed at some stage. That was a good opportunity to bring someone who would have been able to improve the team but, in the end, it was a missed opportunity. Chiefs right now need a coach who is a serial winner and not just someone who will come and ask for time to experiment and all those things. The team has to win trophies like in the past, and for anyone who will come and ask for patience and talk about working on combinations and all those things, there is no time for that. In their search for a new coach, Chiefs should be looking for someone who knows how to win trophies, and I hope that's what they are doing. I wish they can still be able to persuade Nabi. The guy's track record speaks volumes and the results at the teams he has coached are there for everyone to see. The guy is a winner. Look at him now at the Moroccan club (FAR Rabat), the guy is winning there and what more does Chiefs want in a coach? That guy is a serial winner," said Mlwane, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

The Bad

"People won't accept that the club made a mistake by not appointing Nabi to change the situation in the team. I feel that we made a big mistake by not getting the guy when he was available. The way I see it, the club cared the most about protecting certain individuals at the expense of the team in not hiring Nabi and get rid of certain people. It shouldn't have been like that because the club isn't about individuals but the team and improvement in terms of results. It's been too long since the team last won any silverware," he pointed out.

The Ugly

"We cannot be talking about wanting to give opportunities to local coaches and things like that in our current situation. Local isn't lekker for us right now. Sometimes we must be realistic and right now the situation is bad at the club. The club tried to give opportunities, and the coaches who were there tried to change the situation, but the truth is it didn't work. Now it has become clear that the club needs to start afresh and identify someone who's got a winning pedigree and bring that person to change the situation. Chiefs need someone who will also be able to improve the players because somewhere somehow the players have also not come to the party," concluded Mlwane.
