FRIDAY DEBATE: Who Will Win The Soweto Derby?

FRIDAY DEBATE: Who Will Win The Soweto Derby?

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will lock horns at FNB Stadium.

This week's Friday Debate asks who will win the Soweto derby clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, with both sides going into the clash on the back of victories during the week.

Amakhosi won both the Premiership derbies last season and will be hoping to get one over their rivals this weekend, as interim coach Cavin Johnson looks to convince management that he can be in charge of the team at least until the end of the season.

Chiefs beat Cape Town Spurs 3-2 during midweek at FNB Stadium, while the Buccaneers edged Sekhukhune United 1-0 in a tightly contested match at Orlando Stadium. With both sides still on a high after their victories, they will most definitely be looking at getting maximum points on matchday to close the gap between them and leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have games in hand due to their participation in the African Football League.

Soccer Laduma got in touch with two individuals to get their predictions and they are leaning more towards an Amakhosi victory.

Diego Brown - former Stellenbosch FC left winger

I'm going with Kaizer Chiefs on this one. I think this one is purely because of the last result they got and also some players will get a chance to show Johnson they can be relied on. They obviously want to show the coach what they can do and it's a perfect opportunity for them to do that in this match. I think I am going to go with a 2-0 victory for Chiefs.

For Chiefs, I think with the season they have had so far is far from what we would expect from a big club like them, but again new players come in they need time to adjust to the culture of the team and it's not easy. You have to always be at your best at Chiefs you know. I think they can still save their season and maybe finish in the top five. With Johnson, hopefully he can bring something new in the dressing room.

Naeem Amoojee - former Swallows FC striker

I'm going with a 2-1 win for Chiefs. This is based on recent games and Pirates' record with goals at the moment. I feel like Chiefs will take this one, but that's football opinion. In reality, I hope Pirates win it because I am a Buccaneer. Chiefs are very inconsistent, but I feel things will be better now since the arrival of coach Johnson, but this is a derby and form doesn't matter. It's about the performance on the day.
